Barnes Lake Trails
A loop route (Trail Two > Trail One) through the grasslands hills and open forests on and off the Barnes Lake Trails.
Ironmask Hills Hike
Between morning and late afternoon rain, a loop route (Low Iron Trail) in the lower Ironmask Hills. 
Mt. Baldy Hike
An 8 km, 3 hour hike up to the Mt. Baldy Lookout (above Sorrento) and an extra loop trail and back on a warm and pleasant day. 
Timber Lake Hills
A 5+ km hike in the Timber Lake Hills on a sunny day.
Back to Lac le Jeune
It was foggy and drizzly in town, but it was mostly clear and calm at Lac le Jeune for a one hour paddle on the lake, followed by a 45 minute hike on nearby trails. Day 88 of kayaking in 2026.
Adams River Trail
We hiked down the Adams River from Wade Road to Shuswap Lake and back on forested trails – 2 hours – on a sunny day.
Outer Inks Trails
A 5.5 km hike on the Outer Inks Trails on a greyish day. 
Gus Johnson Trail
An 11.8 km hike around Lac le Jeune with the Gus Johnson Trail as the main route. Three hours of pleasant hiking. I will do this one again next fall in the reverse direction and I will probably snowshoe a part of the route in winter. 
McConnell – Stake
A cool morning paddle on McConnell Lake, then a loop route hike on the Stake Lake Trails on a day after the rains.
Fred Lake Loop
A 6 km route east of Lac le Jeune, including stops at Custer Lake, Fred Lake, and views of the Bute Lakes. Not feeling well, but the trudge was done.
Leighton Lake
A kayak around Leighton Lake, then a hike around the lake on the Leighton Lake Trail in Tunkwa Provincial Park. 
Stake Lake
A kayak around the lake followed by a 9 km hike on a loop route on a variety of trails at Stake Lake. 
Walloper Lake and the Butterfly Marshes
A paddle around Walloper Lake first (Day 81), followed by a short hike on the south side of Walloper Lake. Then, a cross-country route through the forest to an old cabin on the Butterfly Marshes. 
McConnell Lake
A kayak around the lake, followed by a hike around the lake (about 2 hours) on a fine end-of-summer day. Day 77 of kayaking in 2026. Months of daily hiking, paddling, tennis, and exploration without missing a day…
McConnell Hill
A three hour hike over and around McConnell Hill on a fine end-of-summer day. 
Tower Hill
A hike long the East Rim, then up a steep track to Tower Hill. Revisiting an old trail I used to do we called “Doug’s Dream.” Still very steep and challenging. 
Lodgepole Loops
Twice around Lodgepole Lake in a kayak, then one more time around the lake, hiking on a trail on a fine day. 
Bluenose Mountain
A drive east of Vernon to Bluenose Mountain. A 6 km hike on a steep route, completing a loop. Great views and a good trail.
Stake Lake and the Dragon Spray Trail
I paddled Stake Lake first, then went up the road to Lodgepole Lake and hiked the Dragon Spray Trail, for a total of about 6 km.
